Well… I finally decided to kick this blog off after months of deliberation, but before I decide to start things I think its only proper to give you guys some background on who I am.
The name I go by is Exclusivo. I’m 26, and truthfulness a fresh face in the Polo game. I’ve been collecting Polo and other Ralph Lauren brands for now 8 years. I’m not a “Lo Head” and I’m definitely not a Lo Life (but I sure do respect the Lo-life fam). I’m simply a collector of Ralph Lauren. Prior and during collecting Polo I collected Nike Products. I started collecting Nike and Jordan Brand products in 2001. I really only started collecting for two reasons:
1. When I was in my younger years I couldn’t afford it, and wanted to retrieve things i wanted from then
2. I began working at Footaction
Long story short, in a 8 year time span I had collected all the pairs I truly ever wanted. When came time for me to get married in June to my lovely wife. I sold most of my collection to pay bills, afford my wedding, and truthfully…to get out the game. When you collect any thing there has to be an exit strategy sometimes. Especially since collecting is usually about amassing material goods.
Some other things you should know in the future about my blog. I’m also a Full-Time college student at Kean University here in New Jersey. I’m also a music producer, and spend much of my free time making music. I’m not “ballin” in any sort of imagination, im just a barely making it college student. So don’t let this blog confuse ya.
Finally. The Polo Addiction.
How I began Collecting Polo: For many years I spent alot of money trying to keep up with the Jones’s. I spent money frivolously on labels like Lrg, Sean John, Akademics, Girbaud, Coogi, Pelle leathers, jerseys, New Era etc. Needless to say Keeping up with the Jones’s cost me a grip of loot ….often.
Enter: My Fam Maxwell, who worked with me at footaction when I was 15. Maxwell like me always wanted to stay fresh, chill, out and pretty much enjoy life. Me and Max would end up hanging out, and partying often….. But there was something i always noticed about him and most of his boys…….THEY ALL WORE POLO! I wont front, at first I was like what kinda crap. Isn’t that what old golf heads wear? I couldn’t help to notice the types of looks people would give him when ever we be rollin together. I looked like Hood Dude number 1 and He would look like Mr. Matching with the classy sweater….. I wont front he also got more attention from the ladies about what he wore then I did with my Girbaud fit (What was I thinking ?). Well after awhile Maxwell showed me the world of polo, and I haven’t looked back since. I learned A valuable lesson from him. All of those street wear brands are in today and gone forever. Ralph Lauren has stood the test of time since 1967. Ralph Lauren doesn’t have any bias you could make it look classy, hood, sophisticated, and even bummy (not a good look). Furthermore, Once I got tired of shopping… wearing…. then….. throwing it out…… I got my Polo Collection together.
Since my first purchase ( a long sleeve red tiger head t-shirt in 2003 from Burlington coat factory) I’ve been a faithful and loyal customer to Ralph Lauren. Yeah Brand Loyalty!(something I’ll talk about in future blogs) All of my reading on VGA over the years, and recently SYL (Shouts to Wiggz) has helped me gain direction and learn knew things about collecting and Ralph Lauren itself. Shouts to Rack-Lo and Thirstin Howl the 3rd For inspiring to turn my Polo collecting up to the a Category 5 (Watching OverLo’d changed everything for me…. If you haven’t seen it I dropped a link on the bottom to purchase). Despite what I do know, I AM STILL A STUDENT TO THE GAME EVEN AFTER 8 YEARS. I learned that the hard way, I don’t go on any forums acting like I know it all about Ralph Lauren……Cause I don’t. What I do know, I am glad to share. So this Blog is merely my opinion and what I do know.Mixed with some findings… and some other things.
